Welcome to The Pirates Friends, (Formally known as Serial Basher). The Serial Basher was such a success, that I decided to add a copy protection basher as well. Then a friend gave me the idea to add a database of cheat codes. Well, the name Serial Basher wouldn't fit to all that has been added to it. So I decided to name the program The Pirates Friend. This program contains all known serial numbers, a list of programs, I have successfully cracked, and the information on how you, yourself can crack programs, and recently, I have added a cheat database, containing quite a few cheats. I hope you like it, it took quite a few hours of work. By the way, we recently discovered, that the name ILLUMINATI was already being used by another group on the Internet. So we have to come up with a new name for our little group of coders, crackers, runners, etc... Below are just some of the names we've come up with, but we can't decide on which one. DWC - Dicks With Computers SPIRIT PWDGF - Pirates Who Don't Give A F*CK! EPA - Elite Pirates Association Now, as to why our little (nameless) group started. We started it, because we're sick and tired of being lied to by the software companies. By that I mean, the price of software is always getting higher and higher, and for years, they have been blaming it on software piracy. You even see reports everywhere, on how many billions of dollars are lost to software piracy. How is it, that now with CD-ROM technology, (Which are not as easily pirated), the price of software has gone up instead of down? I'll tell you why. Because it's not software piracy that's to blame, it's advertising and promotion. Those colorful little boxes and instruction manuals, that come with a program, that's what costs so much, and forces the software companies to raise prices. Sure, there is a lot of money lost to software piracy, but what those same companies, are failing to mention, is the billions of dollars they do make off of a program. Incidentally, the original software authors only getting a small percentage of the money that is collected from mass production of their programs. If you ask me, it's not us pirates who are deceiving the authors, it's the software companies. I recently (about 4 months ago), read an article in a computer magazine, about John Ramero, and John Carmack (Authors of the DOOM series). Both of these guys have 3 ferrari's each! This was money gained from the sale of DOOM alone (a Shareware game I might ad). Think about the money they would have made if it was commercial right from the beginning? Those guys aren't hurting. Now, if software companies, would just stop spending so much money on advertising and colorful boxes to wrap their precious software in, they could easily sell software at $10.00 a pop, rather than $50-60 each. I would be more inclined to spend $10 on a program, then I would be to spend $50+. If I had a $100 in my pocket, I could easily purchase 8 programs, (allowing for tax). Costs a whole lot less than $50+... Software companies, also need to make software available, for the public to see. If not, then we don't. But too many times, has a user gone into a store, to purchase something that looks great on the box, only to be disappointed when they open it. Then of course it's too late to take it back to the store. By the way, software companies, often send free beta software to other major corporations to be tested. They seem to forget, that the real user is the one they are ripping off. So that's why our little group got started. I will continue to pirate (and crack) software, until those big name software companies, come to their senses, and realize, that they can make just as much money, off of selling software at $10 each, versus $50 each. Similar to the other two, this will give you information on how to activate many of the cheat codes in many of todays popular games. *** WHY? *** Now, as to why our little group started. Incidentally, the original software author is only getting a small percentage of the money that is collected from mass production of their programs. But with the price of software, I can maybe buy one. And you know, all that's required, is to put the program on disk, and include a text manual (on disk) that can be printed out, shrink wrap the disk, and put it on the shelf. Costs a whole lot less than $50+... Software companies, also need to make software available, for the public to see. Software stores, could place a large PC with a large harddrive in the store, and place all the new software on it, to be tested and beta tested by users like us. If we like it, we buy it. All they have to do is, cut costs in the marketing department. *** MEMBERS *** Members of ECPA are: Lawson H. Mundy, The Puppet Master, Homeboy, and The Peeper. Software companies, also need to make software available, for the public to see. Software stores, could place a large PC with a large hard drive in the store, and place all the new software on it, to be tested and beta tested by users like us. If we like it, we buy it. All they have to do is, cut costs in the marketing department. *** MEMBERS *** Members of WASP are: Lawson H. Welcome to The Pirates Friend V2.0. This latest version, contains yet more serial numbers. Actually, about 2 days after the first Pirates Friend was released, Lawson H. Mundy, came across a new text file, containing over 1000 serial numbers. Lots of work had to be done to prepare version 2.0 for release. First, we had to make sure that no duplicate numbers would wind up in it. Second, we had to update old serial numbers. Also included in this version, is a few more cracks, Desert Strike, comes to mind. Oh yeah, speaking of Desert Strike, I had to take the cheat commands out for it. Apparently, some of the cheats only work with the UNCRACKED version. Once cracked, they no longer function, and the indestructable cheat we could never get to work. Thanks to Hellraiser & Crockadile for informing me of the fault with the Desert Strike cheat. *** LEGAL STUFF *** In no way will anyone, other than yourself be responsible for the use or mis-use of this program. We recommend, that you make backups of any and all programs, that you attempt to crack, by using a hex editor. This program is freeware. Also we will not be responsible for any cheats that do not function correctly. If you find a cheat or crack, or serial number that doesn't work (providing you are using the proper version), contact us, and we will correct the error. *** SERIAL NUMBERS *** This program started out, simply because I noticed a bunch of text files floating around, containing various serial numbers. A lot of these text files contained duplicates. So I wrote Serial Basher V1.0. Serial Basher is nothing more than a database, in which I placed all the serial numbers (no duplicates). I also added some of my own. And this database will be updated periodically as more serial numbers are found. To use it, press the UP/DOWN cursor keys, or PgUp/PgDn keys to locate the program that you are looking for. Once found press and the serial number that you can use will be displayed. You can also press the first letter of the program you are looking for, and it will take you to the first program starting with that letter. *** CRACKS *** BACKUP ANY FILES YOU ARE GOING TO EDIT!!! This program started along the same lines as Serial Basher. I had various information on how to crack software programs. I decided to place that information into a similar database. I know there are protection removal programs out there such as Locksmith, and Rawcopy, that do the job for you. But where's the fun in that? This database will tell you what editor to use, what file to edit, and what hex bytes to search for and replace with. This gives you a chance at hands on experience in cracking your own software. To use it, press the UP/DOWN cursor keys, or press the PgUp/PgDn keys to locate the program you want to deprotect. Once found, press and the information on how to crack that program will be displayed. You can also press the first letter of the program you are looking for, and you will be taken to the first program starting with that letter. WARNING: I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU MAKE A BACK UP OF ALL THE FILES YOU ARE GOING TO EDIT!!! *** CHEATS *** This database started because a friend of mine, gave me the idea to add a cheat database to my little list of programs. Similar to the other two, this will give you information on how to activate many of the cheat codes in many of todays popular games. To use it, move the cursor over the program you are looking for, and press . (Keys you are to press, are enclosed in < >. Also, any passwords, cheat codes, you enter, might be case sensitive. Try them in lowercase if they don't work in uppercase). *** WHY? *** Now, as to why our little group started. We started it, because we're sick and tired of being lied to by the software companies. By that I mean, the price of software is always getting higher and higher, and for years, they have been blaming it on software piracy. You even see reports everywhere, on how many billions of dollars are lost to software piracy. How is it, that now with CD-ROM technology, (Which is not as easily duplicated), the price of software has gone up instead of down? I'll tell you why. Because it's not software piracy that's to blame, it's advertising and promotion. Those colorful little boxes and instruction manuals, that come with a program, that's what costs so much, and forces the software companies to raise prices. Sure, there is a lot of money lost to software piracy, but what those same companies, fail to mention, is the billions of dollars they do make off of a program. Incidentally, the original software author is only getting a small percentage of the money that is collected from mass production of a program. If you ask me, it's not us pirates who are deceiving the authors, it's the software companies. I recently read an article in a computer magazine, about John Ramero, and John Carmack (creators of the DOOM series). Both of these guys have 3 ferrari's each! This was money gained from the sale of DOOM alone (a Shareware game!). Think about the money they would have made if it was commercial right from the beginning? Those guys aren't hurting for money. Now, if software companies, would just stop spending so much money on advertising and colorful boxes to wrap their precious software in, they could easily sell software at $10.00 a pop, rather than $50-60 each. I would be more inclined to spend $10 on a program, because then I would have a manual, a toll free phone number for technical support, and more money in my wallet. If I had a $100 in my pocket, I could easily purchase 8 programs at $10.00 each, but with the price of software these days, I can maybe, purchase one. All that's required, is to put the program on disk(s), and include a text manual (on disk) that can be printed out, shrink wrap the disk, and put it on the shelf. In case you are wondering, this is actually, three programs in one. (1) A Serial Number Database, (2) A Protection Removal Database, and (3) A Cheat Database. This version, contains yet more serial numbers. Thanks to Hellraiser & Crocodile for informing me of the fault with the Desert Strike cheat. When you see Name, BBS, Registername, key, code, etc... you must enter the information EXACTLY as you see it displayed. You can not place your own information for registration, unless otherwise stated. Also alot of names are case sensitive (I.E.: Batman, xxx, Nobody, ???). If any serial numbers don't work in lowercase, try them in uppercase and vice-versa. Also if more than one serial number is available, try them all, until you find one that works. We feel that it is unfair to computer users that they are not able to evaluate software to see if it suits their needs. Many people have purchased software simply by the way the program looks on the box, only to be disappointed with it, therefore wasting hard earned money. Would you buy a car without first test driving it? I think not! How can software companies, expect users to buy their products, without first getting a chance to test it? They will send copies to large corporations for testing purposes, but seem to forget the small users who actually buy the software. This is where we come in. If you have used The Pirates Friend to break the protection, or get a serial number for your software, then you have 24 hours to test that software. If it meets your needs, please purchase, or register it. If it does not, please delete any and all copies of it. There are many advantages to purchasing or registereing your software. (1) Technical Support, (2) Upgrades, (3) Manuals, (4) Legality, and (5) Control of the Industry. When companies who create good products are supported, then they will be encouraged to produce more and better products. I will continue to pirate (and crack) software, until those big name software companies, come up with a better way of allowing people to test their software prior to spending so much money. *** MEMBERS *** Members of WASP are: Lawson H.
